Lagos, Nigeria – Nigerian immigration authorities have apprehended a prominent native doctor, Levi Obieze, also known by his public moniker ‘E de play, e de show,’ who was wanted by the Enugu State Police Command in connection with alleged abduction, kidnapping, and ritual killings.
The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, confirmed the arrest on Thursday. According to a statement released by NIS Public Relations Officer Akinsola Akinlabi, Obieze was apprehended by border patrol operatives at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme Road in Lagos State. He was reportedly attempting to flee the country on a motorcycle when intelligence led to his capture.
Obieze, a resident of Umuojor village in Enugu State’s Isiagu Community, is alleged to have been involved in the kidnapping of a 13-year-old girl on Tuesday. This incident followed a disturbing discovery on Monday when two decomposing bodies of pregnant women were found in soakaway pits within a native doctor’s compound in the community, triggering widespread panic. The discovery was linked to the teenager’s earlier disappearance while walking to a farm with her father.
Reports indicate that the girl was abducted by two men on a motorcycle who feigned a mechanical fault to solicit help from her father. During the interaction, one of the men reportedly grabbed the girl, and they fled on the motorcycle.
Local vigilante groups and police initiated a search for the missing girl after her father raised the alarm. Residents had reported hearing screams from a bush near Obieze’s compound. When the search party approached his premises, the native doctor reportedly attempted to obstruct them. However, vigilante groups overpowered him, searched the compound, and successfully rescued the abducted girl. The subsequent discovery of the two decomposing corpses in separate soakaway pits on the premises caused further uproar within the community.
Video footage shared on social media reportedly showed community members parading Obieze naked. Known for his ostentatious displays of wealth and public money spraying, the native doctor was reportedly on the run with his four wives before his capture.
Akinlabi confirmed that Obieze is currently in custody and his identity has been verified through a National Identity Management Commission enrolment slip found on him. During initial questioning, he “admitted to the alleged crimes.” The NIS has reaffirmed its commitment to border security and is collaborating with the Nigeria Police Force for the suspect’s handover and further investigation.
