Lokoja, Nigeria – The First Lady of Nigeria’s Kogi State, Sefinat Ododo, has called upon children in the state to embrace ambitious dreams and believe in their potential for greatness, as Nigeria marked its annual Children’s Day.
Speaking at a festive event held at the Government House in Lokoja to commemorate the 2025 Children’s Day celebration, Mrs. Ododo encouraged the young attendees to pursue learning with enthusiasm, actively participate in school activities, and cultivate a strong belief in their capacity to achieve success.
Visibly impressed by various academic and non-academic presentations by students, the First Lady expressed satisfaction that the state government’s investments in the education sector were beginning to yield positive results. She highlighted Governor Ahmed Ododo’s commitment to further investments and impactful policies, including a free education initiative, aimed at harnessing the vast potential of Kogi State’s youth.
Mrs. Ododo pledged her personal commitment to championing access to free and quality education for every child in the state. “I promise to relentlessly use my voice to open doors and create more opportunities for our children,” she stated. “My dear children, continue to dream big, your future is very bright. Do not let your background limit you and never forget your roots.”
The First Lady also underscored the collective responsibility of all stakeholders in addressing challenges such as hunger, abuse, poverty, and other threats to the well-being and future of children in the state. She encouraged the children to remain dedicated to their studies and to show compassion towards less privileged peers, reminding them that “the world always rewards kindness.”
Finally, Mrs. Sefinat appealed to teachers across Nigeria to continue serving as exemplary role models for the students and children under their care.
The event saw over 1,000 assorted school bags, textbooks, and writing materials distributed to the children, alongside the traditional Children’s Day cake cutting.
