Abuja, Nigeria – Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has vehemently refuted allegations made against its Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, by Mr. Paul Ibe, spokesperson for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The anti-graft agency described Mr. Ibe’s claims as “unfounded” and “patently fabricated.”
The allegations surfaced during Mr. Ibe’s appearance on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” programme on Thursday, May 22, 2025. He asserted that Mr. Olukoyede, along with the Solicitor General of the Federation, held a secret meeting with an unnamed governor just 48 hours before that governor’s defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The EFCC expressed outrage at these claims, stating they were “in bad taste.” The commission reiterated its stance that its Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, is “apolitical” and that the EFCC itself is “totally wired against partisan tendencies.”
The agency urged the public to disregard the alleged meeting, stating it “only exists in the imagination of Ibe.” This strong denial comes as Nigeria’s political landscape continues to be marked by intense scrutiny of public institutions.
