A man accused of orchestrating a series of violent robberies in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, has been extradited from neighbouring Togo to face charges.
Adinda Abdu Mujibu, also known by several aliases including Adinda Akpo Abdo, was handed over to Ghanaian authorities in Lomé on Wednesday, May 14th, 2025. The extradition followed months of collaboration between police forces in Ghana and Togo.
The operation was conducted under the auspices of the 2003 West African Police Chiefs Committee agreement, with support from the international police organisation, Interpol. A five-member Ghanaian police team, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), travelled to the Togolese capital aboard a military aircraft to complete the transfer.
Mr. Mujibu was handed over by Togolese officials, led by Commissaire Principal de Police Asi Elu-Ani, in a ceremony attended by staff from the Ghanaian Embassy.
The suspect is alleged to have led a criminal group responsible for a spate of robberies in affluent areas of Accra, including East Legon, Cantonments, Ridge, Tesano, the Airport Residential Area, and Adjiriganor, between 2022 and 2024.
CCTV footage, purportedly showing a man believed to be Mr. Mujibu in the act of robbery, had circulated widely online, causing public concern and intensifying the search for his arrest.
Police say he operated under various aliases, including Rashid Bawa, Maxwell, Papa Rich, and Dawa. He reportedly fled Ghana in 2023 after narrowly avoiding capture during a police operation. Authorities later discovered he possessed both Ghanaian and Togolese identification documents.
An arrest warrant was issued for Mr. Mujibu by the Adabraka District Court on September 5th, 2024, which was followed by an Interpol Red Notice, an international alert for wanted persons. He was eventually apprehended in Lomé on January 10th, 2025.
At a press briefing in Accra on Saturday, May 17th, 2025, DCOP Donkor confirmed that Mr. Mujibu is currently being held in a secure facility. “He is in a location where there is no way he’s going to escape under any circumstances,” she told reporters.
DCOP Donkor also revealed the arrest of another suspect, Alidu Marzouk, believed to be an accomplice, on September 4th, 2024, who remains in custody. While further details are being withheld due to the ongoing investigation, she stated that victims are being contacted to assist with the collection of evidence.
She urged the public to report any suspicious activity and issued a warning to other suspects still at large, saying, “We know where you are, and we are coming for you.”
DCOP Donkor expressed gratitude to the Togo National Police, Interpol Lomé, and the Ghana Embassy in Togo for their crucial roles in facilitating the extradition.
