Nigerian Defence Minister in Berlin for UN Peacekeeping Talks

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has been attending a United Nations ministerial conference in Berlin focused on the future of peacekeeping operations, Nigeria’s Ministry of Defence has confirmed.

The two-day summit, themed “Future of Peacekeeping,” which concludes on Wednesday, has brought together international leaders and defence officials. Notable attendees include UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Germany’s Defence Minister, Boris Pistorius.

According to a statement from the Nigerian Ministry of Defence, Mr. Badaru engaged in several high-level bilateral discussions on the sidelines of the main event.

He reportedly met with Niels Annen, Germany’s State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. Their talks centred on potential economic opportunities for Nigeria and areas for collaboration within the military-industrial sector.

The Nigerian minister also held discussions with Guinea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Morissanda KOUYATE. These focused on regional security issues, stability, and the importance of adding value to natural resources to promote national development.

Upon his arrival in Germany, Mr. Badaru was welcomed by German officials, including Gunther Krichbaum, State Minister for Europe at the Federal Foreign Office, and Dr. Nils Schmid, Parliamentary State Minister of Defence.
