Kogi State in Nigeria has been recognised for its ethical standards, according to the Centre for Ethics and Self Value Orientation (CESVO), an international anti-corruption NGO.
The organisation placed Kogi among Nigeria’s most ethically compliant states, citing the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
This announcement coincided with the presentation of the Ethics and Integrity Ambassador Award to Hon. Ismaila Isah, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media. CESVO commended Mr Isah’s commitment to ethical conduct, personal integrity, and public service.
CESVO’s Executive Director, Prince Salih Musa Yakubu, stated that the award followed a 14-month independent, nationwide ethical compliance assessment. Mr Isah was named among the top 200 public officials at the state level, based on whistleblower recommendations. His emotional intelligence, loyalty, adherence to professional ethics, and dedication to public welfare were highlighted.
Mr Isah’s office was also praised. He received a certificate recognising the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media as one of the top three most ethically managed public offices of its kind in Nigeria.
The commendation also acknowledged Mr Isah’s effectiveness as Governor Ododo’s spokesperson, describing his service as productive and selfless. CESVO suggested he was well-suited for senior roles in public service, corporations, and development organisations both within Nigeria and internationally.
The award ceremony marked the International Day of Conscience and was presented as recognition of Governor Ododo’s administration’s emphasis on ethical leadership, transparency, and values-driven governance.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Isah dedicated the award to Governor Ododo, thanking him for fostering an environment that supports ethics and professionalism. He pledged to maintain ethical standards in public communication and promote transparency through responsible media relations.
Additionally, three members of the Government House Media Centre team – Evelyn Oyiza Yusuff, Shamsudeen Sarki, and Rufai Aliyu Omeiza – were acknowledged for their dedication, professionalism, and ethical support of the Special Adviser’s office.
