Kogi Governor Urges Media to Stand for Truth Amid AI Challenges

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting press freedom, emphasizing the need for the media to stand for the truth in the face of evolving challenges in the digital age.

Marking World Press Freedom Day on May 3, Governor Ododo noted the impact of artificial intelligence on journalism, questioning who controls the narrative and how accuracy can be ensured in an era of machine-generated content.

“We must protect the essence of journalism – its human judgment, ethics, and accountability,” he said, affirming his administration’s dedication to creating an enabling environment for media professionals.

The governor urged journalists to leverage technological innovations while upholding core principles of professionalism, balance, integrity, and responsibility.

“A silenced press is the enemy of progress, but freedom without responsibility is more dangerous in any society,” he added, calling on stakeholders to support efforts to protect journalists and uphold editorial independence.

Governor Ododo’s message aligns with this year’s theme, “Reporting in the Brave New World: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Press Freedom and the Media,” highlighting the need for responsible journalism in the face of technological advancements.
