Kogi Governor’s Inclusive Governance Praised by Spokesman

The governance style of Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has been lauded as exemplary for its inclusiveness and efforts to connect with the state’s population, according to his spokesperson.

Speaking on Nigeria Info FM in Abuja, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, described Governor Ododo’s approach as humane and one that has garnered widespread support within Kogi State.

Mr. Isah highlighted that Governor Ododo has consistently run an inclusive administration, pointing to the significant roles played by women in his government and the fact that young people occupy over 80 percent of appointed positions.

He attributed the current peaceful political environment in Kogi State to Governor Ododo’s respect for individuals regardless of their political affiliations.

“He consulted widely even before he was sworn in as Governor. He met and engaged with all our former governors and political leaders regardless of their political leanings. He also reached out to community leaders and captains of industry… informing them that his administration would be for everyone,” Mr. Isah said. “Upon assuming office, he has sustained that tradition of inclusivity, reaching out even to members of the opposition. Opposition members are carried along in policy formulation, which is why we have not witnessed the usual tension and rancour.”

Reflecting on Governor Ododo’s achievements over the past 14 months, Mr. Isah stated that the administration has remained committed to its campaign promises, which centred on human capital development (health and education), investment in agriculture and food security, security, and infrastructure development.

Addressing security challenges in Kogi State, which shares borders with nine other states and the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Isah said the government has been proactive in working to remove criminals through collaboration with neighbouring regions.

He also emphasised the administration’s focus on completing inherited infrastructure projects, citing the completion of two key road projects in Lokoja, which were commissioned by Vice President Kashim Shettima. Mr. Isah added that plans are underway to construct over 200 kilometers of roads to link rural and farming communities with markets, some in partnership with donor agencies. Township road projects are also reportedly ongoing across all 21 local government areas.

Regarding education, Mr. Isah highlighted the establishment of two new universities by the previous administration and Governor Ododo’s commitment to their continued development, with significant funds invested in securing accreditation for courses at Kogi State University, Kabba.

On security, the spokesman stressed the government’s zero tolerance for crime, the recruitment of local hunters and expansion of vigilante groups, and the provision of necessary equipment.

Finally, Mr. Isah stated Governor Ododo’s dedication to improving healthcare infrastructure, with the revitalisation of over 200 primary healthcare centres across the state, nearly half of which are ready for commissioning.
