Nigerian Drug Enforcement Officers Shot in Abuja Raid

Three officers from Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have been hospitalised after sustaining gunshot wounds during a raid in the Jahi area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The incident occurred on Thursday night.

According to an NDLEA statement released on Friday, the officers were part of a team conducting an intelligence-led operation on an uncompleted building in the NNPC area of Jahi. During the raid, the operatives recovered 74 bottles and 10 litres of codeine syrup, 48 grams of tramadol, and 4.9 kilograms of skunk, a strain of cannabis, along with five mobile phones.

As the NDLEA team was leaving the location, they came under attack from armed individuals. Three of the NDLEA personnel sustained gunshot injuries, with one officer shot in the rib and two others wounded in the back and leg.

The injured officers were initially treated and stabilised at the Police Clinic in the Garki area of Abuja before being transferred to the National Hospital in the capital for further medical attention.

The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retired), expressed his gratitude to the staff of the Police Clinic for their swift response and support. He also thanked the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital for personally overseeing the treatment of the wounded officers.

General Marwa, who was away on official duties in Kano, spoke with the injured officers by telephone to wish them a speedy recovery. He assured them that the agency would utilise all available resources and collaborate with other security agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
