The Nigerian government has announced Monday, March 31st, and Tuesday, April 1st, 2025, as public holidays to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebration, signifying the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, the minister extended congratulations to Muslims on the successful completion of their Ramadan fast. He highlighted the importance of the holy month in cultivating self-discipline, compassion, and spiritual renewal.
Mr. Tunji-Ojo called on all Muslims to continue to embody the virtues of love, generosity, and peace, emphasising the need for national unity and religious harmony within Nigeria.
He also urged Nigerians to use the festive period as an opportunity to pray for the peace, stability, and prosperity of the country.
“As we celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, let us reflect on the lessons of Ramadan, embrace one another with love and forgiveness, and work together to build a more united and prosperous Nigeria,” the minister stated.
He further encouraged citizens to celebrate safely and responsibly, while also extending acts of kindness to those less privileged, in line with the values of Ramadan and Eid.
On behalf of the Federal Government, Mr. Tunji-Ojo wished all Muslim faithful a joyous Eid Mubarak and prayed that the blessings of the season bring happiness and fulfilment to everyone.
The announcement of the public holidays will allow Muslims across Nigeria to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr with their families and communities.
