Man Arrested In Ondo for Impersonating US Military Officer

Akure – Police in Ondo State, south-western Nigeria, have arrested a man for allegedly posing as a retired officer from the United States military. The suspect, identified only as Falade, is also accused of causing unrest in the Idogun community in the Ose Local Government Area of the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Wilfred Afolabi, told journalists that Falade had been arrested and charged in court, and subsequently remanded in a correctional centre in Akure. According to the police, Falade had been presenting himself as a retired Navy Captain who served in the American military and had been “a terror” in the Idogun community for several years.

Mr. Afolabi stated that when he attempted to invite Falade for questioning, he was met with “unprintable words.” He further alleged that Falade went about with fake identification, including a passport and air force personnel, who assisted him in his activities. The police commissioner said that recently, Falade and his followers allegedly abducted people going to their farms and confiscated their property, prompting his arrest.

Following Falade’s arrest and remand in custody, his supporters reportedly rioted, setting bonfires and blocking roads. Police were deployed to restore order, during which one officer was injured. Mr. Afolabi urged residents to use lawful means to address grievances rather than resorting to violence.
