Joint Security Operation Rescues Kidnapped Naval Officer, Civilians in Abuja

Abuja – A joint security operation, comprising the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command and the military, has successfully rescued a kidnapped naval officer and two civilians from captivity. The victims were abducted from Mpape, Abuja, on March 21, 2025.

The abduction occurred when armed men attacked the Maman Vatsa Estate gate, blocked Mpape Road, and opened fire on vehicles before seizing the victims. The kidnappers subsequently demanded substantial ransoms: ₦500 million for the naval officer, Lt. Cynthia Akor, and ₦200 million each for the civilians.

Swift Response and Rescue Operation

Following a distress call, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), DCP Isyaku Sharu, coordinated a joint operation involving the Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), and local hunters. An intensive search-and-rescue mission was launched, covering Mpape, Gidan Bawa, Anguwan Mu’azu, and Yelwa Hills, extending into Nasarawa State.

Acting on intelligence, security operatives stormed a Fulani resettlement in Anguwan Mu’azu and Yelwa Hills between 2:00 am and 5:30 am on March 23. Four suspects were arrested, and the victims were rescued unharmed. Additionally, ₦3.2 million, suspected to be ransom money from previous kidnapping operations, was recovered.

The rescued individuals are receiving medical care and are in stable condition. Security forces are continuing to track and apprehend the remaining suspects. Security deployments have been reinforced in Mpape and surrounding areas to prevent future incidents.
