Rivers State Administrator Vows to Uphold Law and Order

The Sole Administrator for Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas, has pledged to maintain law and order and protect critical national assets during his tenure.

In a state-wide broadcast from Government House, Port Harcourt, Mr Ibas asserted that there would be “no room for lawlessness” or violence under his administration. He also warned that attacks on oil installations would not be tolerated.

Mr Ibas emphasised that his appointment was driven by a commitment to peace and stability, not personal ambition. He pledged to be a “servant leader” and remain impartial.

He acknowledged the “political impasse” that had “paralysed governance” in Rivers State, noting the “uneasy calm” and uncertainty among residents.

Mr Ibas stated that President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency was aimed at restoring peace, security, and economic stability. He outlined his mandate as restoring law and order, stabilising the polity, and creating conditions for the return of democratic institutions.

He called for the cooperation of all Rivers State residents, including elders, political leaders, and civil society, and assured that he was not a “partisan actor”.

“I come as a servant of the state entrusted with the solemn duty of restoring peace and order so that Rivers State can move forward once again,” he said.

Mr Ibas stressed the importance of unity and dialogue and warned against the destruction of national infrastructure. He said that civil liberties and human rights would be respected, but that those who “sabotage the social and economic stability” of the state would face legal action.

Following a security council meeting, he directed security agencies to remain neutral and respect citizens’ rights. He also promised to develop a roadmap for the next six months to ensure government services are functioning effectively.
