Nigeria and Bangladesh Explore Defence and Agricultural Cooperation

Nigeria and Bangladesh are exploring potential cooperation in defence and agriculture, with a focus on integrating military personnel into civilian sectors.

The Nigerian Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar, stated that sharing experiences with Bangladesh could lead to military personnel contributing to non-combat sectors such as agriculture, construction, and infrastructure development.

This initiative aims to keep military personnel engaged during peacetime, fostering their economic prosperity and contributing to national development.

The discussions took place during a courtesy visit by the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Nigeria, Mansur Rahman, in Abuja.

Mr Abubakar emphasised that military cooperation in agriculture and defence could enhance skills development and contribute to community development.

Mr Rahman expressed support for the initiative, highlighting the importance of military involvement in civilian sectors for sustainable development and economic stability. He also noted that defence cooperation could significantly boost Nigeria’s “blue economy”.

The Ministry of Defence highlighted its commitment to innovative strategies that benefit military personnel and promote national prosperity.
