Trans Niger Pipeline Hit by Explosion

An explosion has struck the Trans Niger Pipeline in the Bodo community, Rivers State, Nigeria. The incident, which happened late Monday, caused a significant fire and billowing smoke.

The explosion occurred near the Bodo-Bonny Road under construction, within the Gokana Local Government Area. Video footage captured on Tuesday morning showed thick, black smoke rising into the atmosphere, with the fire rapidly spreading through the surrounding mangrove ecosystem.

The Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) is a critical federal infrastructure, transporting crude oil to the Bonny Export Terminal in Rivers State.

Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko stated she would investigate the incident and provide further information. However, at the time of publication, no further statement had been received.

This incident occurs amidst a period of heightened political tension in Rivers State, including ongoing disputes within the state legislature.
