The Rivers State House of Assembly has issued a notice accusing Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu of alleged misconduct.
Twenty-six members of the Assembly submitted the notice to Speaker Martin Amaewhule on Monday, citing “Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and other existing laws.”
The lawmakers allege that Governor Fubara has engaged in reckless and unconstitutional spending of public funds, obstructed the Assembly’s activities, and made government appointments without proper screening and confirmation.
They further accuse him of withholding salaries, allowances, and funds meant for the Assembly, including the salary of the Clerk, Emeka Amadi.
Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu is accused of “conniving and supporting the illegal appointment of persons to government positions without the required screening and confirmation.”
Speaker Amaewhule has forwarded the notice to Governor Fubara, stating that the allegations were raised by “not less than one-third (1/3) of the membership of the Rivers State House of Assembly.”
He has requested the governor’s response to the allegations, referencing Section 188(3) of the Constitution, which requires the Assembly to resolve whether or not to investigate the allegations within 14 days.
