Three bandits have been killed in an ambush by Nigerian Army troops on the Kaduna-Abuja highway, the military has confirmed.
Troops from Sub-Sector 4, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, carried out the operation near Ngwagi Hill, Gwagwada Community, in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Tuesday.
Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Lt-Col. Musa Yahaya, said the operation was based on credible intelligence that armed extremists were sighted in the area.
Troops were deployed on a long-range patrol and successfully launched an ambush, neutralising three armed members of the group.
“During the operation, troops also recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including two AK-47 rifles, eight AK-47 rifle magazines, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition,” Lt-Col. Yahaya stated. Other items recovered included a mobile phone, medical supplies, clothing, and food rations.
The military spokesman emphasised the troops’ “high fighting morale and combat efficiency,” as well as the “effective collaboration between the military and intelligence agencies.”
Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, General Officer Commanding 1 Division, commended the troops and urged them to continue their efforts to neutralise criminal elements in the region.
