Engineers Urged to Uphold Standards and Ethics at Fellowship Ceremony

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has called on newly conferred Fellows to champion the organisation’s standards and ethics as they serve the nation.

Speaking at the NSE’s First Quarter Dinner and Fellowship Conferment ceremony in Abuja, President Margaret Oguntala emphasised the importance of upholding professional integrity.

“In addition to your duty as torchbearers of the promotion of the standards and ethics of NSE, I urge you to promote Nigerian Content Development in all ramifications,” she stated. “It is the only way that sustainable infrastructure delivery can be guaranteed in Nigeria.”

Mrs Oguntala congratulated the 178 engineers who received their Fellowships, acknowledging their “hard work and commitment to excellence.” She urged them to carry themselves with “dignity and comportment” befitting the honour.

She also highlighted the need for engineers to collaborate with other sectors to address critical national issues, such as infrastructure development and poverty alleviation.

“Let your work inspire and set benchmarks for others to follow,” she told the conferees. “Embrace this honour with a sense of responsibility and commitment. Be the torchbearers of progress, the champions of quality and the advocates for sustainable development.”

The NSE President commended the Board of Fellows for their work in selecting the engineers for recognition and thanked all attendees for their support.

Chairman Board of Fellows Speaks On Value of Networking

Chairman of the Board of Fellows/College of Fellows, Engr. Maliki Kamila, welcomed the conferees, their families, and guests to the “momentous event.” He highlighted the rigorous selection process, emphasising that the Fellowship represents the pinnacle of achievement for Nigerian engineers.

“These eminent professionals are commended for having scaled through the procedures for screening and assessment as the process has remained very thorough but fair,” Engr. Kamila stated. He noted that despite the NSE’s large membership, only a small percentage attain the Fellowship grade, underscoring its exclusivity and prestige.

He called for the new Fellows to be accorded “appropriate recognition and privileges” and expressed his delight in celebrating their achievements.

Engr. Kamila also emphasised the importance of the gathering for networking and exchanging ideas on the “ongoing rebirthing of our great Society” and its role in Nigeria’s infrastructural and economic development.

He concluded by acknowledging the “extraordinary President” of the NSE, the first female President, for her vision and dedication to the engineering profession.
