The wife of the Kogi State Governor, Sefinat Ododo, has called for collective action to advance gender equality in the state.
Speaking at an International Women’s Day event in Lokoja, Mrs Ododo, represented by the Deputy Governor’s wife, highlighted the state’s efforts to promote gender inclusion, including the domestication of the Child Rights Act and free education initiatives.

She acknowledged progress made by women in Kogi State in areas such as business, politics, and education, but noted that challenges to achieving gender parity remain.
“Every girl must have access to education, every woman must be able to work without discrimination, and every mother must receive quality healthcare,” she said.
Mrs Ododo emphasised that gender equality is a “collective responsibility”, not just a women’s issue. She urged leaders, organisations, and individuals, particularly men, to actively participate in accelerating gender equality efforts.
She reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting women through initiatives focused on education, healthcare, and business development.
Mrs Ododo also commended the wife of the Nigerian President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her work in empowering women.
