Nigerian Minister Calls for Alignment of Faith and Politics

Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said that faith and politics must align for national development.

Speaking at an annual Ramadan lecture in Kaduna, Mr Idris emphasised the importance of the intersection of faith, politics, and power in shaping Nigeria’s future.

The lecture, organised by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), and the Voice of Nigeria (VON), focused on the theme “Faith, Politics and Power: The Involvement of Ulamas in Politics and its Implications.”

Mr Idris praised the organisers for providing a platform for national discourse, stating that the lecture series would “catalyse positive change” in Nigeria.

He acknowledged the “internal and external political dynamics” that shape national unity.

The minister highlighted the significance of Ramadan as a period for “introspection, unity, and renewed commitment to national development”.

He also praised President Tinubu’s administration for signing the national budget, which prioritises key sectors such as security, education and infrastructure.

Mr Idris called on Nigerians to embrace “love, compassion, and resilience” during Ramadan and beyond, urging them to make “the right decisions” in navigating politics and power.
