The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar III, has announced that Saturday, 1 March 2025, will mark the beginning of Ramadan.
Speaking from his palace on Friday evening, the Sultan confirmed that the crescent moon was sighted earlier that day, corresponding to the 29th day of Shaban. He said that verified reports of moon sightings from across Nigeria had been received and accepted by the council, confirming the start of Ramadan 1446.
The Sultan called on all Muslims to dedicate the holy month to prayer, seeking blessings and guidance for the nation and its leaders. He also encouraged acts of charity and support for the less privileged during the fasting period.
Reports from Islamic leaders nationwide confirmed the moon’s appearance, officially marking the start of Ramadan fasting on Saturday. Muslims across Nigeria will now begin the month-long period of fasting, prayer, and devotion.
