Dangote says refinery has enough petrol to meet Nigeria’s demand

Aliko Dangote has stated that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has sufficient petrol in storage to meet Nigeria’s domestic demand. Following a tour of the facility by Zambia’s Minister of Energy, Mr. Dangote revealed the refinery holds over half a billion litres of refined petroleum products, worth more than ₦600 billion.

“As we speak right now, we have more than half a billion litres,” Mr. Dangote said. “The refinery is producing enough refined products, like gasoline, diesel, and kerosene, to meet 100% of Nigeria’s requirements.” He added that the refinery has “over 600 billion naira worth of products in its tanks.”

Mr. Dangote emphasized that the refinery’s purpose extends beyond Nigeria, serving the entire African continent and aligning with the goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area. “We must sustain the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) deal. We are trying to see how we trade with other African countries,” he said.

Zambian Energy Minister, Makozo Chikote, expressed admiration for the refinery’s capacity and its potential benefits for Africa. He highlighted Zambia’s reliance on the private sector for petroleum products and their desire to promote competition. He said that Dangote’s involvement would lead to “efficient, reliable, quality, and competitive products.” He added that the visit had taught him the importance of multiple players in the market and that Dangote’s vision extended to the broader African picture. The Zambian delegation toured several facilities, including the Single Point Mooring, Dangote Jetty, Africa’s largest fertiliser plant, and the refinery itself.   Sources and related content
