The National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA) has requested regulatory oversight from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). The NCAA has confirmed it will begin the process of bringing the association under its regulatory purview.
The NCAA regulates most of the aviation industry but has not previously regulated travel agents, an area plagued by unqualified operators. The NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection described NANTA’s request as a “forward-thinking” move that will protect the integrity of legitimate agents and combat quackery.
NANTA President, Yinka Folami, confirmed the request, stating it would improve service delivery. He explained that while NANTA members are currently registered with the NCAA, full regulation would eliminate the activities of unqualified agents who give the industry a bad name. He added that the move could also help address issues such as flight delays and cancellations.
The NCAA said that regulating NANTA would be a “landmark achievement” and predicted a successful 2025 for the aviation industry.
