Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has urged security agencies to take proactive measures to maintain law and order in Osun State, following recent incidents in local government councils.
In a statement signed by Iyogun Sunday on behalf of the Director Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Defence, Mr. Matawalle expressed concern over the incidents and emphasized the need for security agencies to ensure the protection of lives and properties. He noted that the federal government is committed to ensuring the safety of citizens in Osun State, and that security measures have been elevated to prevent further tensions.
Mr. Matawalle also called on stakeholders, including political leaders, community members, and civil society organizations, to respect the rule of law and engage in constructive dialogue. He stressed the importance of collaboration in fostering a peaceful environment in Osun State, which is vital for the progress and development of the region.
The minister’s statement comes amid concerns over the politicization of security services in Osun State. Governor Ademola Adeleke has previously cautioned against the politicization of security services, emphasizing the need for impartial discharge of duties.
The Minister’s call for calm and respect for the rule of law is seen as a move to reassure citizens of the federal government’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Osun State.
