A fire outbreak at the Cawthorne Channel 1 Barges in Rivers State, Nigeria, has been successfully contained, according to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.). In a statement on Thursday, the NNPC Ltd. said the fire broke out on the dry crude storage barge BESTAF5 at approximately 14:10 hours on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 and spread to other barges. Thanks to the swift response of the company’s emergency teams and industry partners, the fire was brought under control, NNPC Ltd. said. The incident did not affect flow station operations and most importantly, there were no casualties, with all personnel reported safe. According to Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., the company prioritizes safety and remains fully committed to environmental protection and operational integrity.
