The Nigerian government has resolved the passport printer crisis at its consulates in New York and Atlanta, United States. The crisis had caused delays in the passport application process for Nigerians living in the diaspora.
New passport printers were delivered and installed at both consulates on Tuesday, following directives from the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in January 2025. The move is part of the Ministry’s broader reforms aimed at improving service delivery.
According to the Minister, “The installation of these new printers demonstrates our dedication to addressing the needs of Nigerians at home and abroad.” The new printers are expected to provide immediate relief by speeding up the passport application process.
The reforms also include the establishment of the Abuja Passport Personalisation Centre and the expansion of contactless solutions across more regions. These initiatives align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, which aims to improve the lives of Nigerians.
The resolution of the passport printer crisis is a welcome relief for Nigerians living in the US, who had been facing difficulties in renewing their passports due to the outdated printing machines.
