Mudashiru Obasa, the ousted Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has vehemently denied allegations linking him to a cache of firearms reportedly discovered at his office. Online reports had claimed that 47 pump-action guns were found by Department of State Services officials during a visit to the assembly on Monday, with some versions suggesting the weapons were discovered in Obasa’s office, while others pointed to the former Chief Security Officer’s office.
Obasa described the report as a “concoction” in a statement released by his aide, stating that the story was “ill-conceived” and “clearly exposes its author and paymasters as maliciously of low intelligent quotient, only out to malign my hard-earned reputation.” He further emphasized that the discovery was an “afterthought,” following the “futility of their illegal actions”.
A source within the DSS has also disputed the report, telling PUNCH Online that the agency did not uncover any weapons at the assembly. Obasa’s denial comes amidst a backdrop of controversy surrounding his removal as Speaker, a matter currently before the court.
