The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has teamed up with leading carbon data platform Sylvera to launch the Carbon Data Access Partnership (CaDAP). This initiative aims to provide African governments with comprehensive data on carbon projects, enabling them to make informed policy and investment decisions.
Through CaDAP, Sylvera will offer insights on over 21,000 carbon projects, giving governments a clearer picture of existing and planned projects within their territories. This partnership is expected to enhance Africa’s engagement with carbon markets, unlock carbon finance, and promote more favourable regulatory environments.
“Africa has a critical role to play in the journey to net zero,” said Allister Furey, CEO of Sylvera. “By partnering with UNDP, we can deliver transformative carbon insights that drive climate action and economic growth”.
The partnership also seeks to address the undervaluation of African carbon credits in global markets. By providing governments with comprehensive data on project performance, environmental impact, and additionality, CaDAP aims to enhance credibility, attract higher-value investments, and advocate for fair pricing.
Sylvera, which has raised over $96 million from investors, is a leading provider of carbon ratings, tools, and data. The company is committed to incentivizing investment in real climate action and has worked with global corporations, financial institutions, and governments to develop and execute their carbon credit strategies.
