NNPC rejects ‘baseless’ claims about fuel quality

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has dismissed as “false and misleading” a viral video alleging that its fuel does not last. The state-owned oil company described the claims as “baseless and entirely unfounded,” originating from “unverified and amateur research.”

In a statement released on Saturday by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, the NNPC reaffirmed that its fuel is “carefully formulated” to ensure “optimal efficiency, durability, and environmental sustainability.” It highlighted that a significant portion of the petrol sold at its Lagos retail stations – the location of the video – comes from the Dangote Refinery, a partner committed to “strict industry standards.”

The NNPC suggested the video was a “desperate attempt by economic saboteurs” to damage its reputation. It warned that it would take “firm legal action” against anyone intentionally spreading false information about its brand and operations.

The company urged the public to disregard the video and seek information from verified sources. It reiterated its commitment to providing Nigerians with “fuel availability, affordability, and quality,” while adhering to global standards.
