Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has dismissed comments by Babachir Lawal regarding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 presidential ambitions. Mr. Matawalle emphasized that President Tinubu has made significant strides in governance, particularly in the North, and will receive resounding support from the region.
According to Minister Matawalle, President Tinubu’s administration has achieved notable successes in security and defence, including the neutralization of over 8,000 terrorists and bandits, the arrest of 11,600 criminals, and the recovery of more than 10,000 weapons in 2024. The establishment of the Multi-Agency Anti-Kidnap Fusion Cell (MAAKFC) in December 2024 has also enhanced strategic coordination in the fight against kidnapping.
In addition to security reforms, Mr. Matawalle highlighted the administration’s economic initiatives, such as the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development, which aims to tap into the agricultural potential of the North, promoting economic growth and empowering millions. The local government autonomy signed into law by President Tinubu has also empowered local administrations to function effectively, ensuring accountability and better governance at the grassroots level.
The Minister urged critics to evaluate President Tinubu’s scorecard objectively, emphasizing that the North remains steadfast in its support for the President. He concluded by reaffirming the Northern region’s commitment to the Tinubu administration, stating that their support is “unwavering and unshakeable”.
