A devastating school shooting has occurred in central Sweden, leaving at least 10 people dead, including the suspected gunman. The attack took place at Risbergska school in Orebro, approximately 200km west of Stockholm.
According to police, the male perpetrator was not previously known to them, and there is no identifiable motive for the attack. The gunman is believed to have acted alone, and police have ruled out terrorism as a motive.
Eyewitness Accounts
Teacher Lena Warenmark described hearing around 10 gunshots close to her study, while student Marwa recounted a harrowing scene where she and others tried to save a person’s life.
Response from Authorities
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has described the attack as the “worst mass shooting in Swedish history” ยน. The justice minister has offered condolences to those affected and reassured citizens that schools will be safe to return to on Wednesday.
Investigation Ongoing
Police are continuing to investigate the attack, with nearby hospitals treating several injured individuals. Orebro University Hospital reported treating five people with gunshot wounds, with an additional sixth person receiving treatment for minor injuries
