Nigeria’s Federal Government has expressed its condolences to the government and people of Niger State following Saturday’s devastating petrol tanker explosion at Dikko Junction. The incident has claimed the lives of at least 86 people, with 55 others injured and hospitalized.
Prof. Nantewe Yilwatda, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, described the incident as “tragic” and noted that it caused extensive property damage. He warned motorists against reckless driving and urged them to adhere to road traffic regulations.
The Minister also commended the swift response of Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State and his team, as well as the Nigeria Police Force and other concerned Nigerians who assisted in evacuating the victims.
The Director-General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Abdullahi Baba-Arah, confirmed that 80 of the victims were buried in a mass grave, while the rest were handed over to their families for burial.
