Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, has unveiled ambitious reforms to revolutionize the state’s primary healthcare system, aiming to deliver high-quality and accessible health services.

At a stakeholders’ engagement on primary healthcare revitalization in Lokoja, Governor Ododo announced the introduction of periodic spot checks on all Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state. This initiative, led by the Primary Healthcare Task Force, aims to ensure accountability, enhance coordination, and elevate the standard of services provided by PHCs.

Governor Ododo emphasized the critical role of PHCs in reducing maternal and infant mortality rates, boosting immunization coverage, and raising awareness about primary healthcare. He expressed his administration’s commitment to addressing challenges in the primary healthcare system, ensuring better health outcomes through improved data collection and adherence to best practices.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams, highlighted the significance of collaboration among stakeholders in sustaining healthcare initiatives. At least one PHC in each of the state’s 239 wards is currently operational, with plans to increase the number of fully functional PHCs.

Governor Ododo also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his support for healthcare reforms, acknowledging its impact on the state’s efforts. Traditional rulers, including the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, have pledged their support in monitoring and supervising PHCs to maintain service delivery standards.
