Ondo State Police Arrest 32 Over Communal Clash

A communal crisis between the Owake and Ebo communities in Ondo State’s Akoko South-West Local Government Area has resulted in the arrest of 32 individuals. The violence, which occurred on Sunday evening, claimed two lives, left many injured, and destroyed several buildings.

Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, disclosed that the suspects would soon be charged in court. Afolabi expressed disappointment and sadness over the crisis, emphasizing that it was not a spontaneous event, but rather a created conflict.

The crisis reportedly began when youths from Igbo were mistaken for individuals involved in a land dispute while on a hunting expedition in Owake. The police commissioner advised those fuelling the crisis to pursue peace, warning that they would ultimately lose.

Many residents of the affected communities have fled, fearing reprisal attacks and police arrest. Only a few children and elderly individuals remain in the area.
