Kogi State Government to Invest ₦7 Billion in Revamping 88 Primary Healthcare Centres

The Kogi State Government has announced plans to spend over ₦7 billion to revamp an additional 88 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state’s 21 local government areas. This move aims to enhance access to healthcare delivery and upgrade over 150 PHCs to functional level-2 health facilities.

Governor Ahmed Ododo, represented by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams, disclosed that the revitalization of the new set of PHCs follows the ongoing upgrade of 70 PHCs, which are already at various stages of completion. The project is part of the state government’s strategic plan to improve access to quality healthcare services, with support from the World Bank.

The governor expressed appreciation for President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, which prioritizes the wellbeing of ordinary Nigerians through enhanced access to healthcare. He also acknowledged the efforts of the immediate past administration in laying a solid foundation in the health sector.

Governor Ododo called on contractors to adhere to high standards of professionalism, ensure timely completion within four months, and engage with local authorities and stakeholders to ensure social and environmental safeguards. He also urged local authorities to take ownership and protect personnel, equipment, and the PHCs.

This initiative marks another step towards achieving effective healthcare delivery and universal health coverage for the people of Kogi State.
