OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman has denied allegations of sexual abuse made by his sister, Ann Altman, in a lawsuit filed in a US District Court. The lawsuit claims that Mr Altman abused his sister regularly between 1997 and 2006, starting when she was three years old and he was 12.
In a joint statement on X with his mother and two brothers, Mr Altman described the allegations as “utterly untrue”. The statement added that caring for a family member with mental health challenges is “incredibly difficult” and that the situation causes “immense pain” to the entire family.
The lawsuit, which has been seen by the BBC, alleges that the abuse included rape and that the last instance occurred when Mr Altman was an adult and his sister was still a minor. The lawsuit requests a jury trial and damages in excess of $75,000.
Ms Altman has previously made similar allegations against her brother on social media platforms. Mr Altman is a high-profile figure in the technology world, having launched the ChatGPT generative artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot in late 2022.
