The Kogi state government has vowed to take the fight to criminal hideouts, rather than waiting for attacks to occur. According to Ismaila Isah, Special Adviser to Kogi State Governor on Media, Governor Ahmed Ododo has launched a direct and consistent offensive against criminal elements within and around the state.
Despite recent security breaches, Mr. Isah claims that Kogi is faring better in the fight against crime. “We’re taking the fight to the bad guys in their hideouts, engaging in clearance operations across the state, especially along borders with neighbouring states,” he said.
The state government has also established a strategic relationship with the office of the National Security Adviser, the Nigerian military, and other security agencies. Additionally, the government has provided logistics for security agencies, including vehicles, motorcycles, and the recruitment of vigilantes and local hunters.
Ismaila Isah, who featured on a TrustTV News programme, Daily Politics, on Tuesday, praised the previous administration for solidifying the state’s security architecture, which has been built upon by the current government. He also commended the leadership of military and paramilitary heads in Kogi for their patriotism and courage in the discharge of their duties.
Regarding the reported banning of mining activities in the state, Mr. Isah clarified that the government had only suspended licensing by local communities due to the nefarious activities of illegal miners and the security implications for mining communities. The state government is now ready to welcome investors
