New Orleans Attack: Multiple Suspects Believed Involved, Says FBI

A devastating attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Day has left 16 people dead, including the suspect, and at least 35 others injured. The driver of the pick-up truck, identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old US Army veteran from Texas, was killed in a shootout with police.

According to US authorities, multiple people are believed to have been involved in the attack, which is being investigated as an act of terrorism. President Joe Biden stated that the attacker was inspired by the Islamic State group, and an IS flag was found in the truck.

The victims of the attack include a former Princeton University football star and aspiring nurse. The identities of the remaining victims are still being established.

Law enforcement is also investigating potential links between the New Orleans attack and the explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas, which occurred hours later. However, President Biden has stated that no link has been found yet.

The attack led to the postponement of the Sugar Bowl, a major college football game, which was originally scheduled to take place on Wednesday afternoon. The game is now set to proceed today at the Caesars Superdome, with the University of Georgia facing off against the University of Notre Dame.

Jeff Hundley, CEO of the Allstate Sugar Bowl, emphasized the importance of public safety, stating that the postponement was necessary to ensure a secure environment for the event
