A Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, killing at least one person and injuring seven others. The incident occurred on Wednesday, with police stating that the blast is believed to have been an isolated incident, although authorities are investigating possible links to terrorism.
US President Joe Biden confirmed that authorities are probing potential connections between the Las Vegas explosion and a separate attack in New Orleans, where a truck ploughed into a crowd of New Year’s revellers, killing at least 15 people. However, Biden noted that no links have been found between the two incidents.
The Cybertruck, made by Elon Musk’s electric vehicle company, pulled up to the hotel’s entrance before exploding. Video footage shows the truck bursting into flames, followed by smaller explosions resembling fireworks. Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMahill reported that the truck contained gasoline, camping fuel canisters, and large firework mortars.
The FBI is investigating the incident, with a joint terrorism task force working to confirm the identity of the individual involved and determine whether the blast was an act of terrorism. Elon Musk stated that the explosion was unrelated to the vehicle itself, with the Tesla senior team investigating the incident
