The Nigeria Police Force has reiterated its stance against unprofessional officers misusing the name and office of Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for fraudulent activities. In a statement released on Saturday, Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi expressed concern over the conduct of these officers, which undermines the force’s reputation and public trust.
Mr. Adejobi warned that some officers are using the Inspector-General’s name to intimidate victims into believing that he is aware of and approves their illegal activities. This tactic deters victims from reporting incidents to higher authorities.
The police force urged the public to be vigilant and report any misconduct or fraudulent behaviour by police officers to the appropriate authorities, including:
- Complaint Response Units: Report incidents to the heads of these units in your state.
- Commissioner of Police: Reach out to the Commissioner of Police in your state.
- IGP Monitoring Unit: Contact DCP Akin Fakorede at 08184077076.
- Force Public Relations Officer: Reach out to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi at 08037168147.
The police force reassured the public of its commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. This warning comes after a similar alert was issued in October, urging Nigerians to refrain from exploiting the Inspector-General’s name to intimidate others
