The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has strongly rejected allegations accusing Nigeria and other member states of sponsoring terrorism. In a statement, ECOWAS described the claims as “unfounded” and “contrary to Nigeria’s longstanding commitment to regional peace and security”.
ECOWAS highlighted Nigeria’s leadership in the Multinational Joint Task Force, which has achieved significant successes in combating terrorism and maintaining stability in the West African region. The C
ommission emphasized Nigeria’s contributions to peace and security extend beyond the subregion, underscoring its role as a pillar of peace on the African continent.
The commission urged all states in the region to prioritize dialogue and cooperation, calling for an end to baseless accusations that could undermine unity and peace efforts. ECOWAS stood firmly with Nigeria and other member states against the allegations, citing Nigeria’s generosity and dedication to stability as evidence against the claims.
ECOWAS Commissioner emphasized, “For years, Nigeria has supported the peace and security of several countries… ECOWAS therefore refutes any suggestion that such a generous and magnanimous country would become a state-sponsor of terrorism
