Nigeria’s Military Responds to Reports of Airstrike on Civilians in Sokoto State

Nigeria’s Joint Task Force Northwest Operation Fansan Yamma has responded to reports of a military fighter jet bombing civilian structures in Sokoto State’s Silame Local Government Area. Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullah clarified that military operations are conducted based on thorough intelligence and reconnaissance to ensure precision and protect civilian lives, particularly when targeting groups like the Lakurawa terrorist organisation.

The military has urged the public to rely on confirmed information to prevent misinformation and panic. There are concerns that terrorist groups may spread disinformation to undermine military successes, especially in the fight against terrorism and banditry.

Reports from the area indicate that the targets struck near Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa were linked to the Lakurawa group, justifying the military action taken. However, local sources claim that many villagers were feared dead, and several others injured in the airstrike, which allegedly targeted the wrong location
