Nigeria’s Police Force Debunks Viral Fake News

A false report claiming Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, instructed citizens to physically assault police officers during stop and search operations has been dismissed by the Nigeria Police Force.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP never issued such a directive, emphasizing instead the importance of reporting police misconduct through official channels.

To address concerns and promote accountability, the police have provided several contact channels for the public to report incidents, including phone numbers (+2347056792065, +2349133333785, +2349133333786), social media handles (@PoliceNG on X, @ngpolice on Facebook, and @nigeriapoliceforce on Instagram) and email (pressforabuja@police.gov.ng).

The police have urged citizens to verify information through credible sources and remain vigilant against misinformation. The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to fostering a cooperative relationship between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
