Stampede at Palliative Distribution in Anambra

A stampede occurred at the gate of the Obijackson Centre in Okija, Anambra State, during the distribution of palliatives, leaving an unknown number of people feared dead and others injured.

The incident occurred on Saturday as people, mostly women and children, struggled to gain entrance amid a large and uncontrollable crowd. The palliatives, including rice, vegetable oil, and money, were donated by a community member, Chief Ernest Obiejesi (Obijackson).

Eyewitnesses reported that many people collapsed and were rushed to the hospital, with some critically injured. Numerous shoes and slippers belonging to the victims were scattered at the entrance gate.

Calm has since been restored, and the distribution of palliatives has resumed.
