Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land titles of several high-profile individuals, including a foundation owned by former President Muhammadu Buhari. The move affects 762 plots of land in the Maitama District, which were allocated to prominent Nigerians and corporate organizations.
Those Affected
- Former President Muhammadu Buhari’s foundation, Muhammadu Buhari Trust Foundation
- Former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen
- Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen
- Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and his wife, Regina Akume
- Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani
- Several former and serving lawmakers, including Senate Chief Whip, Tahir Monguno, and former Senators Andy Uba and Smart Adeyemi.
The revocation is due to the non-payment of statutory fees and failure to obtain Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) for the allocated plots. The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) issued a notice stating that the affected individuals and entities had failed to comply with payment obligations, leading to the forfeiture of their land rights.
In response, former President Buhari’s spokesman, Garba Shehu, clarified that the revoked land belonged to the Muhammadu Buhari Foundation, not the former President himself.
