Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched Operation Zero Tolerance, a nationwide campaign aimed at reducing road traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities during the end-of-year period.
The operation, which commenced on December 15, 2024, and will run until January 15, 2025, involves the deployment of the FRSC’s entire workforce, including Special Marshals, to highways across the country.
Key Operational Strategies
- Deployment of Operational Vehicles: 1,102 operational vehicles, including 157 administrative vehicles, 754 patrol vehicles, 143 ambulances, and 48 tow trucks, have been deployed nationwide.
- Traffic Control Camps: 16 traffic control camps have been set up on different routes to monitor and control traffic.
- Help Areas and Emergency Services: 23 Help Areas and 59 Emergency Ambulance Points have been activated to provide prompt assistance to road users.
- Mobile Courts: Mobile courts will be constituted across the nation to prosecute traffic offenders.
Critical Corridors
The operation will focus on critical corridors, including:
- Sokoto-Tambuwal-Jega-Birnin Kebbi corridor
- Katsina-Kano-Wudil-Dutse-Azare-Potiskum corridor
- Kaduna-Saminaka-Jos corridor
- Abuja-Kaduna-Kano corridor
The FRSC’s Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, emphasized that the operation aims to address the major causes of road traffic crashes, including excessive speed, overloading, and dangerous driving.
