Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu Appoints New Acting Controller-General of Corrections

Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu has appointed Nwakuche Sylvester Ndidi as the Acting Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, effective December 15, 2024.

This appointment follows the expiration of the tenure of the current Controller-General, Haliru Nababa, who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari on February 18, 2021.

Ndidi, born on November 26, 1966, in Oguta, Imo State, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Until his appointment, he served as the Deputy Controller-General in charge of the Training and Staff Development Directorate. He is also a fellow of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies and holds the national honour of Member of the Federal Republic.

The President has tasked Ndidi with utilizing his expertise to drive the Nigerian Correctional Service forward. As the new Acting Controller-General, Ndidi is expected to oversee the administration of the correctional service, ensuring the humane treatment and rehabilitation of inmates, as well as maintaining public safety and security.
