Brazil Pulls Diplomats Out of Syria Amid Tensions

Brazil has withdrawn its ambassador and diplomats from Syria, relocating them to neighbouring Lebanon due to the unstable security situation in Damascus. This decision was made by the government of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva after several state buildings and embassies in Damascus were stormed and vandalized.

Ambassador Andre Luiz Azevedo dos Santos and the diplomats will remain in Beirut until the security situation in Syria’s capital improves. The Brazilian embassy itself was not targeted during the attacks.

The situation in Syria has been volatile since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, with various countries pulling their diplomats out of the country. Greece also withdrew its diplomats from Damascus on Monday due to the unpredictable security situation.
