Tanzanian Police Investigate Reported Kidnapping of Opposition Youth Leader

Tanzanian authorities are investigating the alleged kidnapping of Abdul Nondo, the youth leader of the opposition party ACT Wazalendo. According to the party, Nondo was abducted by unknown assailants from a bus station in Dar es Salaam, the country’s main city.

Police confirmed that a man was taken from the bus station in the early hours of Sunday by two individuals in a white four-wheel-drive vehicle. Although the victim’s identity has not been officially confirmed, police said the abducted man left behind a bag containing items believed to belong to Nondo.

This incident comes after the kidnapping and killing of a senior leader from the main opposition party, Chadema, in September. President Samia Suluhu Hassan denounced the incident and called for an investigation into the murder.

ACT Wazalendo expressed concern over Nondo’s abduction and called for immediate action. The party stated that Nondo was campaigning for their candidates in recent local government elections in the western region of the country before his abduction. The motive behind the kidnapping remains unclear.
