Ebonyi State Governor Suspends Two Commissioners Over Alleged Misconduct

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, has suspended two commissioners from his cabinet due to alleged gross misconduct and dereliction of duties.

Dr. Moses Ekuma, the Commissioner for Health, and Francis Ori, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, were suspended during the State Executive Council meeting in Abakaliki on Monday.

According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, the suspension is indefinite for Ori, while Ekuma will be suspended for three months.

Other officials suspended include the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, and the Executive Secretaries of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency and the Ebonyi State Health Insurance Agency.

The suspensions are reportedly connected to the alleged theft of property belonging to the Ministry of Health and the underperformance of the Housing and Urban Development commissioner.

The Governor has directed the Special Assistant on Primary Health to take charge of the Ministry of Health in the absence of the suspended Commissioner.
